Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is gaining popularity as a natural herbal product with a variety of benefits. However, with rising demand comes the risk of fake or low-quality kratom entering the market. For wholesale buyers, being able to distinguish genuine kratom from counterfeit products is crucial to maintaining quality and customer trust.
Here are some practical tips to help you identify real kratom before purchasing in bulk.
1. Check the Color and Texture of the Powder
Authentic kratom powder has a consistent color depending on the strain—usually vibrant green, brownish-green, or deep green. Fake kratom often looks dull, overly dark, or unnaturally bright due to artificial coloring.
In terms of texture, genuine kratom is finely ground and smooth. If the powder is too coarse or clumpy, it may indicate poor processing or the presence of additives.
2. Distinct Natural Aroma
Real kratom has a unique herbal smell that is fresh, earthy, and slightly bitter. Fake or adulterated kratom may have a chemical-like, overly fragrant, or unnatural scent—clear red flags of added substances.
3. Request Lab Testing for Purity
When buying wholesale, always ask for lab test results from your supplier. These lab tests reveal the mitragynine content and check for contaminants like heavy metals, pesticides, or microbes. High-quality kratom usually contains 1–2% mitragynine.
If a supplier refuses to provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA), consider it a warning sign and look elsewhere.
4. Know Your Supplier’s Reputation
Always work with trusted and reputable kratom suppliers or farmers. Check customer reviews, certifications, or business licenses. Transparent suppliers will openly share information about their harvesting, drying, and packaging processes.
5. Be Wary of Prices That Are Too Low
Price can be a strong indicator of quality. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Extremely cheap kratom may be diluted or fake. For wholesale buyers, investing in quality over quantity pays off in the long run.
6. Request Samples Before Bulk Orders
Ask for samples before committing to a large purchase. Try small quantities to test the effects, aroma, and overall quality. This step can save you from significant financial losses caused by fake or low-grade products.
